Texas State of Clay: Past and Present

the Bastrop County Historical Society will sponsor “Texas State of Clay: Past and Present” with guest curators, Bastrop Clay Arts. This six-week exhibit, April 1- May 13th, will take place at the Bastrop County Historical Museum and Visitors Center, 904 Main Street, Bastrop.  The presentation will be a major display of historic pottery including information about and examples of pottery from the nineteenth century McDade Pottery and Alum Creek area potteries. The display will feature the McDade pottery collection of Lisa and JJ Jackson.  The exhibition will bridge the ancient clay tradition in Texas with historic potteries and current clay artists from the area. This concurrent exhibit will also feature work by potters who have been major leaders in the contemporary ceramics field in the state.  Historically, there will be emphasis on the ancient traditions of Texas clay including that of the Caddo and Jornada cultures.
