Bastrop Clay Arts-Spring Invitational

Bastrop Clay Arts—Spring Invitational for Clay Artists

The BCA team to bring the first of its kind clay exhibition to Bastrop, TX, Spring 2016

Exhibition Dates: April 22 -24, 2016

Bastrop, TX, – Ceramic artists in the Central Texas area have plenty of local guilds and arts associations to submit works for exhibitions that often combine 2D and 3D works, but dedicated ceramics shows are infrequent or too exclusive for emerging artists. Local artists, Marie Blazek and Melanie Shaw, have organized Bastrop Clay Arts and have teamed up with the historic Bastrop Opera House to provide a distinct location for ceramic artists to showcase their works. The Spring Invitational for Clay Artists will take place on April 22-24, 2016.

The Bastrop Clay Arts team is comprised of volunteer artists and arts enthusiasts in in the Central Texas area to promote clay medium as an art form and as a creative experience. The Spring Invitational will hold an open call for juried entry to highlight emerging and professional clay artists in the Central Texas area.

Ceramics encompasses artists fully vested in utilitarian wares, artists that specialize in sculptural works and installation works. As a whole, ceramic arts reflect the diversity of the audiences that it attracts and this event aims to highlight these strengths.

The Bastrop Opera House has a rich past that fully complements this exhibition, historically opened as a frontier theater after the railroad service was completed in the 1887, it has a varied tradition of theater productions, movie theater and event rental space. The venue has been an active fixture in Bastrop and Bastrop has historically garnered additional tourist traffic via the Houston/Austin corridor.

The Spring Invitational for Clay Artists will host a Salsa Demo with Viejo's Tacos y Tequila during the Friday night opening served on artist’s wares, clay demos for children and adults over the weekend and a mug giveaway early Sunday afternoon with specialty coffees and baked goods to be provided by Main Street Café of Bastrop.

Photos available upon request.
